Teachers 'Opinions about Turkish Education of Social Networks-Virtual Education Environments and Students' Contributions to Vocabulary


The aim of this study is to determine the teachers 'views on the contribution of social networks and virtual learning environments to Turkish education and students' vocabulary. For this purpose, teachers' opinions about the contribution of social networks and virtual learning environments to Turkish education and their contribution to the vocabulary of students were collected. From this point of view, the connection situations between social networks and virtual learning environments to Turkish education and students' contribution to vocabulary were tried to be revealed. Within the scope of the study, 40 Turkish teachers working in the central districts of Antalya were interviewed during the 2018-2019 academic year. Semi-structured interview form was used to obtain the data. The data obtained from the interview form were evaluated with descriptive analysis and content analysis method and evaluated in accordance with the purpose of the research and presented as headings. As a result of the findings obtained from the research data, it was found that the majority of teachers used social networks and virtual learning environments. The participants stated that they made researches and exchanges about Turkish course in social networks and virtual learning environments. The Turkish teachers who participated in the research stated that their social networks and virtual learning environments increased the students' interest in the Turkish course and contributed to the Turkish education. In addition, participants stated that social networks and virtual learning environments improve students' vocabulary. The Turkish teachers who participated in the research stated that social networks and virtual learning environments are not sufficient for Turkish education and the content should be enriched. They also stated that social networks and virtual learning environments should be under the supervision and control of the Ministry of National Education. He also stated that it would be useful to examine the contents of Turkish education in social networks and virtual learning environments by field experts.
