The Commentary of Taşlıcalı Yahya’s Lyric with The “Bana”

Taşlıcalı Yahya is a poet known for his works written in the form of Masnavi verse in Divân poetry tradition and the ”Şehzade Mustafa Mersiye” which he wrote about the unjust killing of Prince Mustafa, the son of Suleiman The Magnificent. Moreover he has established himself with his poems which he put forth in the gazel genre. In this study, the poet’s world of poetry was tried to be revealed by commenting the lyric with the redif “bana” in Yahya Bey Divân by Mehmet Çavuşoğlu. In addition to being a poet, he was also a soldier, and it is among the issues that the study tries determine whether the effects of military personality was reflected İn the style of annotated lyric. In addition to Yahya Bey; Muhibbî, Fuzulî and Hayalî Bey who were the other poets of the XVI. century had lyrics with the redif “bana” and this had a reason for choicing of lyric which would be commented. It was found that in the first six couplets of Yahya Bey’s lyric with the redif “Bana” the poet did not digress the classical fiction and the mazmuns; however, in the seventh couplet, he left the template drawn by traditions, and he carried out a more original art performance. İn the last couplet, the poet reflected both the characteristics of his personality and military profession very clearly. Moreover, the surrender and weakness to the lover throught the lyric left its place to haugtiness and indomitability in the last couplet.
