The purpose of this study, is to determine the notion paralogisms by examining the candidates of social studies teachers about notion structures of the keyword ‘Geographical Information Systems’. Research datas were collected via using an independent word association test, from 80 students studying at Necmettin Erbakan University. The answers given by the social studies teacher candidates categorized by codes via word association test analyses. In these categories, the frequencies and percentages of repeating answers were calculated. When the frequencies and percentages of the categorized answers examined, it can be seen that students are concentrated on issues such as ‘Geographical Issues, Map Knowledge, Scientific Sections, Remote Sensing, Issues About Geographical Information Systems, Hardware and Software’. According to these results, it can be said that the teacher candidates could make enough attribution about the keyword ‘Geographical Information Systems’. However, the distance of these attrubitons to the scientific information shows us that the teacher candidates have limited information about few topics.
