Educational systems of our epoch put the focus on the learner and enable their active participation as well as the use of many new methods and techniques in the learning process. Educational games, which are one of these techniques, enable the strengthening of the contents learnt and help students clearly express themselves, gain freedom of movement and actively participate in the process. In this study, it was aimed to determine the opinions of secondary school students about the educational game activities that are conducted in the “Structure and Properties of the Material” unit of the science course. The study was conducted by using the phenomenology model, which is one of the qualitative methods. The study group of this research is composed of 9 7th grade students who are studying in a secondary school located in the Adilcevaz district of Bitlis province during the academic year of 2015 – 2016. The study group was selected by using the typical case sampling method. In “Structure and Properties of the Material” unit of the science course, educational game activities were conducted as additional activities to complement those in the course book and curriculum. Research data was obtained from diary notes and semi-structured interviews that were conducted with students. The data obtained was evaluated by content analysis. As a result of the research, it was determined that the students think educational games are effective in enabling them to gain and develop cognitive, emotional and social characteristics, increasing their participation in the activities of the science course and overall benefiting themselves. In addition, it was found out that the students want educational games to be applied also in other courses such as mathematics, social studies and foreign languages as a way to facilitate learning and enable effective learning.
